London Designer Makers Christmas Sale!!

TingLowDesigns (that's me!) will be at the London Designer Makers Christmas Sale this year. Come and get your Christmas presents and drop by to say hello! I will be selling some of the old favourites and an exciting new collection of delicate 14K gold trace necklaces.

This event is organised by Cassie English who is a talented freelance designer/illustrator. The Santa design for the event (shown above) is an illustration from one of Cassie's 2009 cards. Cassie has a London based design and illustration studio specialising in greeting cards, stationery and gifts. Come along to check out her festive cards, notesets and other similar products!

There will be a variety of items on sale which will make lovely presents - screen printed clothing, homewares, cards, art prints, jewellery, leather handbags, handmade dolls, textile crafts, cupcakes and savory tarts and so much more. Food stalls, shopping and drinks - a perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

Who can resist a kaleidoscope?

I can't remember the last time I looked through a kaleidoscope, but I definitely spent a fair portion of my childhood captivated by the coloured forms changing patterns at will with the slightest movement. And mesmerised I was by the changing colours and shapes, which is why I could hardly tear myself away from Taylor's Eclectic Shop. I seriously love this shop. It is filled with unique items straight out of a colourful kaleidoscope world...

Taylor makes a variety of jewellery and pretty vessels which are absolutely stunning. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind treasure. Taylor works with wire and paper, colouring each piece before covering it with sealants. "Wire allows me to capture the minute details of the world that I see around me, and color adds the unceasing drama that I feel in every single piece that I make."

The store itself holds a collection of picasso rings, statement necklaces and sculptural vases with intricate detail.

Taylor's work is inspired by the way light bounces off crashing ocean waves and the way it dips through wind blown leaves. She tries with every piece to "make the intangible tangible"... Eye-catching. Fabulous. Stunning.

I love all creatures (great and small) but when it comes to a favourite, it has to be elephants. So when I finally managed to get myself a list on the Treasury in etsy I titled it "Elephants Live Here" and found some really wonderful items from fellow etsians.

If I had to choose something to buy from this list, it has to be the Dancing Elephants Necklace by TillyBloom. This beautiful and unique necklace has been made out of strong, lightweight plastic which is varnished. Check out her site here. There is a whole range of necklaces, brooches, earrings, hairpins, bracelets, prints... the lot! It's wonderful.

One other thing, congratulations to Kim who is the winner of the silver blossoms with lime drop earrings!

Adorn Your Ears

I have been listening to a lot of music recently. I went travelling in September with my trusty ipod and favourite albums on it... Leonard Cohen, Springsteen, The Eels, Florence and the Machine... and although I had no plans other than to see as much of Syria and Jordan as possible, I met some great people who were just the right amount of mad. I found myself leaving my plans behind and crossing the border from Syria into Beirut with them. Heading back to Damascus, I was in the back seat of the taxi with a lovely but incomprehensible Irishman. I managed to piece together what he said long after he said it. Possibly out of politeness on realising I wasn't quite following his stories by the time we were across the border, he pulled out his ipod and shared his music with me. Steve Reynolds. That's what he played me and I have bought both albums (Exile and The Carnival Papers) and played them almost constantly since I got back to London. I am sure I will be back to the old favourites soon enough, but for now, I can't stop listening to this.

Hello and A Great Big Welcome to Stellar Features!

My name is Ting and I live in a tiny Victorian house in the east end of London where I run my workshop making jewellery. Artists often find it hard to get their work out to the public as it requires a lot of effort and precious time away from creating those wonderful items for us to treasure. I love finding originally designed, beautifully well-made items and meeting the personalities behind those pieces. This blog has been created to support those artists and craftmasters and to celebrate their skill and creativity.

I hope you check back often to join in a GiveAway or two. I'll also love for you to comment on the great finds that I am constantly stumbling across online and show some support for those with busy hands!
